Playground Math

We are going create, measure and analyze some data today.  Data of our own creation.  We will need to go outside and visit our old friend the primary climber.

Our task today is to investigate rates.  What is a rate?

Ok, now that you get it, what are some rates that we could create or measure on the school yard?

Good! Now let’s get out there and gather some data!

….

Now, what data did you collect?  What rates did you decide to measure?  How can you display your information?

Can you expand your rates/data to put them into a wider context (make it more relatable to others)?

What is the average rate an intermediate student can travel down a slide?

How many times can an intermediate climb an apparatus in a minute?
